The Events DC Kickoff Classic, a high school football triple-header featuring some of the District’s top teams, will launch an inaugural showdown of epic proportions with Dunbar, The Maret School, Woodrow Wilson, Archbishop Carroll, Friendship Collegiate Academy and H. D. Woodson high schools vying for bragging rights on Saturday, Sept. 15 at RFK Stadium.
The event, sponsored by Events DC, the District’s official convention and sports authority, will also mark the start of the organization’s new Amateur Sports Initiative – a multi-year program designed to recognize amateur sports, from football and basketball to pole vaulting and high-speed racing taking place throughout the greater Washington area.
The Classic continues a long tradition of football at the historic RFK Stadium and will also include halftime performances by high school marching bands and a Pepsi Fan Zone filled with sponsor brand activations, youth football activities and family-friendly entertainment by local musicians and DJs.
“Events DC is proud to welcome some of DC’s most-talented high school student-athletes to play on RFK Stadium’s historic NFL football field this fall, as they showcase and grow their many talents while also creating an unforgettable experience for them and their families,” said Erik Moses, senior vice president and managing director of sports, entertainment and special events, Events DC.
The schedule: Dunbar vs. The Maret School, noon; Wilson vs. Archbishop Carroll, 3 p.m.; and Friendship Collegiate vs Woodson, 6 p.m. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, Aug. 14 at Ticketmaster.com, in advance at participating high schools and at the stadium’s box office on game day.
