College Readiness

PREPARING FOR COLLEGE

The DCSAA is committed to providing District student athletes with the necessary information to assist with their college preparedness. We offer school workshops upon request and are also available to answer any questions that arise.

Use the DCSAA College Readiness Guide in order to make sure that you are ready to begin the college process.

CHECKLIST FOR READINESS

Use the following grade-specific checklists to make sure that you are taking the appropriate steps to be academically eligible to participate in sports during your first year in college.

GRADE 9 CHECKLIST

  • Start practicing good study habits.
  • Learn the graduation requirements for your high school and make sure that you are on track.
  • Get to know your school counselor.
  • Take the practice SAT and/or ACT tests.

GRADE 10 CHECKLIST

  • Continue with good study habits.
  • Calculate your core GPA.
  • Register for the NCAA Eligibility Center at www.eligibilitycenter.org
  • Check your graduation requirements and make sure that you are on track.
  • Take practice SAT and/or ACT tests.

GRADE 11 CHECKLIST

  • Continue with good study habits.
  • Calculate your core GPA.
  • Register for the College Board at www.collegeboard.org for SAT and ACT testing.
  • Check your graduation requirements and make sure that you are on track.
  • Make a list of colleges and universities of interest and check the admission requirements for each.
  • Register and take the SAT and/or ACT tests.

GRADE 12 CHECKLIST

  • Continue with good study habits.
  • Calculate your core GPA.
  • Write your personal statement.
  • Check your progress toward graduation requirements.
  • Update your NCAA eligibility center account.
  • Register and take the SAT and/or ACT tests.
  • Register and apply for DCTAG.
  • Apply for supplemental scholarships.
  • Work with parents/guardians to complete the FAFSA application.

WORKSHOPS FOR COLLEGE READINESS
